ASLA Begins Data Collection for National Salary Survey
The survey will represent the most accurate data available on nationwide salaries for landscape architects.
ASLA is conducting the next national salary survey during June 2006. On June 8, Full and Associate ASLA members received an email invitation to participate including the link to the online survey. The purpose of the survey is to collect, analyze, and disseminate salary data on the profession for information and research purposes. Private, public, and academic sectors will all be covered by the survey, and the results will include analysis by major metropolitan areas, states, regions, years of experience, number of employees, job titles, and gross revenue of the employing firm or organization. The survey data results are continually in demand by public and private practitioners, students, and institutions. The information will be collected in a database and available to search online by subscription.
ASLA most recently published the online national salary survey in 2004. ASLA is the sole provider of this statistical overview of the profession, and the most current data is anticipated. The online database allows users to customize presentation of the data. For example, when retrieving information from the survey, subscribers can compare salary information among major metropolitan areas, by years of experience, and by firm size.
The data from both ASLA’s national salary survey and business indicators survey is shared with the Bureau of Labor Statistics and used in its Occupational Outlook Handbook website promotion of landscape architecture as a career option. ASLA uses the survey data to help recruit students and others to become landscape architects. ASLA media relations staff use the data frequently throughout the year to demonstrate the high demand for landscape architecture services. The results of the last survey appeared in more than 150 newspapers in all the top 20 media markets. The ASLA press releases about the 2004 business indicators survey and the 2004 national salary survey feature highlights of the last survey findings.
If you are a current Full or Associate member of ASLA and have not yet received the email invitation but wish to participate in the national salary survey, please contact Susan Cahill at scahill@asla.org. During the first four hours that the survey was active and available, 250 eligible members successfully submitted the survey questionnaire online. The 2004 survey results represent data from 2,499 ASLA members.
The quality and detail of the survey results depend on ASLA members' participation.
