| Kevin S. Holden, ASLA |
On April 25, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers announced the selection of Kevin S. Holden, ASLA, as the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Landscape Architect of the Yearfor 2006. Holden is a project landscape architect for the Corps' Rock Island district.
This award is presented annually to recognize excellence in the field of landscape architecture, as well as significant contributions to the Corps, the profession, and the community. Holden was nominated by his supervisor, with an endorsement by his commander.
Holden’s core duties involve site planning and design for civil and military construction projects. His work ranges from master planning to planting plans, and from concept sketches to final plans and technical specifications. Some of his more visible local projects include the Devonian Fossil Gorge Visitor Facility, Coralville, Iowa; the Cedar Falls Downtown Riverfront Promenade, Cedar Falls, Iowa; and the Cannon Flats Golf Driving Range, Arsenal Island, Illinois. Holden has also worked on a diverse range of projects in Illinois, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. In January of this year he worked with navy and air force landscape architects and engineers to produce a hurricane recovery plan for Keesler [SP?] Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. Holden is presently on a 90-day tour of duty as action officer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, assisting with the transitional housing mission and the hurricane Katrina recovery efforts there.
The award will be officially presented by Lieutenant General Carl A. Strock, Chief of Engineers and Commanding General, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, in a ceremony to be held on August 7 in San Diego.

Chuck Crawford , ASLA |
TBG Partners, a landscape architecture and land planning firm, announces the addition of landscape architect Chuck Crawford, ASLA,as a senior associateto the Dallas office. Crawford earned a bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Louisiana State University in 1969. He is responsible for project management and production on a number of developments. Currently, he is working on the design for the Children’s Medical Center Tower IIIB in Dallas, and the J. W. Marriott Resort in San Antonio.
DesignWorks LC of Charleston, South Carolina, announces the promotion of three team members, four new hires, and LEED accreditation.
Lauren Stubbs, Associate ASLA, who has been with DesignWorks for five years, has been promoted to project coordinator. Stubbs holds a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia.
Evan Brandon, ASLA, who first came to DesignWorks as a student intern in 2001, has also been promoted to project coordinator. Brandon, a registered landscape architect, holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University and a master’s in Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University.
Patrick Johnson, Associate ASLA, has been promoted to senior designer. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 2002 and has been with DesignWorks since 2004.
Cameron Barradale, Associate ASLA, came to DesignWorks in July 2005 as a designer. Barradale holds a bachelor’s of Landscape Architecture degree from Clemson University.

Jennifer Jessup was hired in 2005 as a designer. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic University and previously worked for Shelia Wertimer in Charleston[, South Carolina?].
Meredith Muse, Associate ASLA, was hired in February 2006 as a designer. Muse graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture in 2005, and comes to DesignWorks after working nearly a year at another Charleston firm.
Jonathan LaRose also joined DesignWorks in February 2006. He holds a bachelor’s of science in Landscape Architecture from North Carolina A&T State University. Before joining DesignWorks, LaRose spent seven years in the landscape construction field, most recently serving as project manager.
DesignWorks Project Coordinator J.R. Kramer, ASLA, has received LEED accreditation, qualifying DesignWorks to participate in and lead the growing number of environmentally sensitive projects. Kramer has focused on sustainable and environmental design since graduating from the University of Georgia six years ago, where his emphasis was in environmental design. He is now one of four LEED AP accredited Landscape Architects in the state of South Carolina.
