The famed Chautauqua Institute in southwestern New York State is offering a week’s worth of intensive study on landscape architecture from July 17-21. During this week, the Chautauqua Institute will feature speakers and lectures that consider how a community reflects its cultural context and manages progress, preservation, and designed growth. Topics will range from the development of a residential landscape to the urgent national issues of urban and regional renewal. Features speakers include:

  • ASLA President Dennis Carmichael, FASLA
  • James Van Sweden, FASLA,
  • Charles Birnbaum, FASLA
  • L. Azeo Torre, FASLA.

The Athenaeum Hotel at the Chautauqua Institute is offering special rates for all ASLA members. Chautauqua is a community noted for its landscapes, historic architecture, beautiful gardens, and overall community design. Nestled on the shores of Chautauqua Lake, the institute is a registered National Historic Landmark. For more information visit the Chautauqua Institute website, or download the group's brochure on the event.
