Lewis Scully Gionet Inc. is pleased to announce the promotions of several individual to its senior staff.  Steve Choi, ASLA,  Brian Jacobson, ASLA, and Lindsey Whang, ASLA, have been promoted to Associates.  Molly Graves, ASLA, has been promoted to Senior Project Manager and Amol Desphande, Associate ASLA, and David Norden, Associate ASLA, have been promoted to Project Managers.

Steve Choi is a six year LSG veteran with over ten years of professional experience in the U.S. and overseas.  His portfolio includes park and recreational master plans, mixed-use urban developments, and office and research campuses.  Mr. Choi is managing several projects at the Potomac Yard in Arlington, Virginia, a mixed-use development with commercial, residential, retail and park components.

Brian Jacobson is a registered landscape architect who joined the firm in 2004. He has over ten years of project management experience, specializing in construction documentation and administration on large, interdisciplinary projects.  Mr. Jacobson is providing construction administration services for Midtown Reston, a three phase condominium development adjacent to Reston Town Center.

Lindsey Whang, registered landscape architect, joined LSG in 2001 and has eight years experience. She’s managed multiple projects from local parks and corporate campuses to high-end residential. She’s taken some from conceptual design through construction administration. Ms. Whang is managing several projects including Locust Shade Park and 1200 East West Highway.

The Fitch Studio Evolves Into The Landscape Architecture Bureau (LAB)
Since it as established in 1992, the Fitch Studio has succeeded both in maintaining a collaborative character and in fulfilling the vision of making places, at whatever scale, that are conceptually clear and carefully crafted.  With the new name Landscape Architecture Bureau (LAB), the firm is emphasizing its open-minded ethos, and teamwork-driven atmosphere.

LAB will remain true to a mission of providing a fusion of art, science, and stewardship to its clients and the public, creating places that are memorable, exceptional for the client, and a credit to the community as a whole.

LAB undertakes landscape architectural and urban design projects. The firm has created a diverse range of award winning landscapes and master plans, including parks, streetscapes, schools, mixed-use centers, green spaces, affordable and elderly housing. 

 

Sasaki is pleased to announce that Nancy Fleming, ASLA, has re-joined the firm as a Principal in the San Francisco office. Fleming, a Landscape Architect, has more than twenty eight years of landscape planning and design experience working with both public and private clients.  Past projects have focused on the urban realm where she has led complex projects dealing with streets, urban districts, transportation systems, and urban rivers.  Her award-winning work has been recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Planning Association, and the Urban Land Institute and she has been published in numerous professional publications.  

Fleming is a graduate of Texas A&M University and previously worked as a Senior Associate in Sasaki's Dallas office through its entire 11-year history.  In her new role, she will augment the leadership and design resources of the San Francisco office.

 

Miguel Iraola, ASLA, has been hired as director of planning at Hord Coplan Macht (HCM), an architecture and landscape architecture firm in Baltimore.

Iraola has 18 years of experience in town planning and urban design. Prior to joining HCM, he was an urban design coordinator with the Montgomery County office of Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) where he oversaw all urban design assignments in the Silver Spring and Takoma Park area. During his tenure, he was the designer for Fenton Gateway Park and the Montgomery Hills Georgia Avenue projects, both in Silver Spring, and the planner for the Damascus Town Center in Damascus, Md.

Iraola has also worked for Silver Spring-based Torti Gallas & Partners and LDR International, Inc. in Columbia, Md.

A member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the American Planning Association, Iraola holds a master's of landscape architecture degree with a concentration in land planning and urban design from Kansas State University and a bachelor's degree in landscape horticulture from Colorado State University.

HCM is an architecture, landscape architecture, planning and interior design firm with 28 years of experience in the mid-Atlantic region.  Based in Baltimore, it designs a variety of project types including healthcare, multi-family housing, education, cultural and religious, parks and recreation, urban planning and design, adaptive re-use, and offices and institutions.

Jack Carman, FASLA, has written a chapter, "Therapeutic Gardens", for the recently published book entitled Complimentary and Alternative Medicines for Older Adults. The book, published by Spring Publishing, discusses ways in which older adults can maintain wellness by natural means--such as yoga, music, art, diets, and therapeutic gardens.
