Discovering a New LAND Online
Our latest version of LAND Online features better navigation, a monthly poll, and enhanced archive search.
As readers may have noticed, LAND Online has a brand new look that not only provides them with a much better visual experience but will also make the publications easier and faster to read. This new-look LAND was designed by ASLA's graphic designer Tedra Hackett, who joined the society in December, after a stint as a graphic designer for BBC America. LAND Online readers will see more of Hackett's excellent work as they peruse ASLA's new green roof page and the new disaster response page. She is also working on many other projects that will bring a new look and much more functionality to the ASLA website.
What's new?
On the home page of LAND Online, readers will now find a top navigation bar that leads them to key areas within the ASLA website. Underneath this navigation bar is a new image featuring one of the projects from the 2005 ASLA Professional and Student Awards, with a link to more information about that project. These images will change with every issue, providing a new opportunity for readers to revisit the awards program. This banner image will highlight 2006 winners when ASLA announces the winners of this year's Professional and Student Awards.

On the left-hand navigation of the LAND Online home page, readers will find the newsletter's reoccurring columns, featuring news on federal and state government affairs, the Professional Practice Networks, as well as the popular "People" and "Landscape Architects in the News" columns. Regular readers of LAND Online will remember that these columns used to appear on the right-hand side of the old LAND Online. The center column still contains the feature articles, along with photos pertaining to those articles.
The home page also has an area where readers can sign up to have LAND Online emailed to them, as well as areas to search for past articles in LAND Online, link to the last issue, and browse the 2006 issues of LAND.
The LAND articles include a new left-hand navigation that links to all of the articles in that week's issue. This will allow readers to go from one article to the next without going back to the homepage. In addition, one article each month will have a poll question that solicits the opinions of LAND readers and allows them to comment on the subject of the article.
In the future ASLA plans to add new features to LAND Online, including more user-friendly ways to email articles to colleagues and comment boxes that will allow readers to comment on each article. But for now, we think this is a wonderful way to start the new year.
If you have any comments, suggestions, or concerns with the new LAND Online, please feel free to email them to ASLA Web Editor Dave Connell at dsaunders@asla.org.
