ASLA Council of Fellows Scholarship Update
The goal for the endowment has been increased to $250,000.

Maria Landoni de Rose, Student ASLA, receives the first Council of Fellows Scholarship from Bob Weygand, FASLA, immediate past chair of the Council of Fellows

Two years ago at the Council of Fellows (CoF) business lunch in Salt Lake City, the ASLA CoF Scholarship was established and launched. In 2005, one scholarship of approximately $4,000 was awarded, based on financial need, to a student from an underrepresented population. In future years, the CoF plans to award two scholarships, with the possibility that one or both will be awarded based on financial need and the student's inclusion in an underrepresented population. The first scholarship recipient, Maria Landoni de Rose, Student ASLA, received her scholarship at the CoF's business lunch in Fort Lauderdale.

With the generosity of the Fellows present in Salt Lake City, the CoF raised over $15,000 in pledges and donations to establish the scholarship endowment and set an original goal of $100,000. This past year at the business lunch in Fort Lauderdale, the CoF raised $98,050 through 2008, raising the bar for the endowment to reach $250,000, which would fund two $5,000 scholarships annually out of endowment funds. These are in addition to the two scholarships funded from the $10 special assessments on Fellows dues approved by the ASLA Board in 2005 and the $10 assessment on the Fellows Investiture Dinner tickets.

This past year, the CoF raised $98,050 through 2008, raising the bar for the endowment to reach $250,000, which would fund two $5,000 scholarships annually out of endowment funds.

The scholarship is administered and managed by the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) in consultation with the CoF executive committee. LAF has waived all administration fees for the first three years of the program to assist in building the endowment. For full details on the ASLA Council of Fellows Scholarship, please go to the LAF website. For pledges and donations, please contact Ron Figura at rfigura@lafoundation.org.

Sincere thanks go out to all the Fellows and firms who have contributed thus far and a special thanks to those who rose to the contribution challenge of $1,000* or more over three years or less:
