Chapter —
A landscape architect from the Central Section will meet with 10-12
students from the Hempfield School District, Lancaster County, and
review the role that landscape architects play in the design of
exterior spaces with a specific focus on the design of facilities
for pedestrians. Following the review with the students, they will
be asked to wear pedometers (as supplied by the ASLA) to keep track
of the distance that they walk daily, logging the number of steps.
At the end of the 2 weeks, the students will be asked to complete
a walkablility survey for one of their walks. The Chapter has agreed
to provide the students with the greatest total distance walked
with a prize. The primary focus of the activity is to increase the
students awareness of their environment and to show them the role
that the profession of landscape architecture has within their communities.
Schedule as follows:
April 12 -14 , 2005 - Meet with Students
April 18 - 29 - Recording Walking Activities
May 5 - Complete Walkablility Survey

maintenance on the trees. On April 27, a tree will be planted at
the Cemetery in support of the effort.
