2006 ASLA Awards

The 2006 professional awards jury reviewed more than 500
entries before selecting 32 to receive awards. The awards will be presented
during ASLA’s annual meeting in Minneapolis, from October 6 through October 10.
The panel was chaired by Todd Johnson, FASLA, principal in charge of Design
Workshop in Denver, and included Kenneth Brooks, ASLA, associate dean for
academic affairs of the College of Design and professor of landscape architecture
at Arizona State University; Pamela Burton, ASLA, principal of Pamela Burton
& Company; Malcolm Cairns, FASLA, chair of the Department of Landscape
Architecture at Ball State University; Andrea Cochran, ASLA, principal of
Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture; David Dillon, architecture critic for
the Dallas Morning News and a contributor to Landscape Architecture;
Bill Marken, editor-in-chief of Garden Design magazine; Elizabeth Barlow
Rogers, Honorary ASLA, founder of the Central Park Conservancy and winner
of the ASLA 2005 LeGasse Medal in the non-landscape architect category; Paul
M. Rookwood, ASLA, managing principal of WRT; Janet Rosenberg, ASLA, principal
of Janet Rosenberg + Associates; and Rodney Swink, FASLA, past president of
ASLA and director of the North Carolina Office of Urban Development in the
state’s Department of Commerce. Karen Jessup, a preservation activist and
landscape historian who is also a visiting research fellow at the Centre for
Conservation Studies at DeMontfort University in England, joined the panel
to select the Landmark Award.
Over the coming year, Landscape
Architecture will feature 2006 award winners that have not already been
covered by the magazine. The following pages include brief descriptions of the
award winners.
