A gift from Harvard to the Allston community, Raymond V. Mellone Park is a 1.75-acre landscape behind the Honan-Allston Branch of the Boston Public Library. Mellone Park was designed as a library within a park – not a park behind the library.

Once part of the original Charles River marshland but later occupied by a concrete plant, the park site is now reclaimed as a natural, sustainable landscape. The previously flat site is re-contoured to support a diversity of new landscapes and uses – a Hilltop for prospect and contemplation, a Central Lawn for informal uses such as picnicking or sunning, an Event Lawn for gatherings, and a Rain Garden to collect run-off for groundwater recharge.
