The Exorcist Steps

The Exorcist Steps lead from 3600 Prospect Street down to M Street. From the top, there is a terrific framed view of the Key Bridge. They are very steep. Approaching them is intimidating. Whether you are coming from the top or the bottom gives you the feeling of either scaling or falling off of a cliff.  When this visual drama is combined with their well-known use in the 1973 film The Exorcist (Jason Miller's character dies when propelled down them by, one presumes, the devil), they become really otherworldly, especially at night.

Richard Burton was in the sequel, Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977). It was Father Damian Karras played by Jason Miller who went flying down the stairs in the original film.
