PPN Newsletter Guidelines

ASLA asks PPNs to produce at least one newsletter per year, at least two pages long. The PPN Chair or designated newsletter editor provides ASLA staff with content (text and graphics). ASLA provides final edits, layout, and posting to the Web.

I. Content Requirements:

  • Letter from the Chair(s)
  • Table of Contents
  • List of PPN officers (include office title and ASLA designation)
  • Additional text materials and graphics
  • II. Text Requirements:

  • Text should be in MS Word or plain text (.txt) format
  • Do not provide any formatting except for capitalization, paragraph divisions and punctuation
  • Provide complete reference information for any documents cited in the text
  • Along with name of author(s), include ASLA or FASLA designation, and 1-2 sentence bio (job location, title and email contact information)
  • Single space between sentences
  • III. Graphics Requirements:

  • Send graphics in files separate from text. Indicate where they should go in the text if not obvious
  • Preferred electronic file format is .jpg
  • DO NOT send images embedded in MS Word or Powerpoint, or .gif files from the Internet
  • Source of graphics must be attributed; indicate if image belongs to author, that permission to use image has been obtained if source is other than author, or that image is in the public domain.
  • Captions are preferred but not required if graphic is self-explanatory. Send captions in separate Word file.
  • Optional:

  • Text boxes, sidebar material, charts, etc.,
  • which may be included in the text
  • Preference for order/placement of articles
