GSA to Seek LA Firms
As a direct result of ASLA’s meetings with the General Services Administration (GSA), GSA is issuing a solicitation for landscape architecture firms to compete for indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contracts to provide services as part of GSA’s First Impressions program. The aggregate dollar value of the services is estimated at $12.5 million over the next 5 years. This will be the first time GSA has contracted with landscape architecture firms as primes on federal projects. GSA is expected to release the solicitation within the next two weeks. Watch for updates in LAND Online.

Chair Susan L. B. Jacobson, FASLA, and the Nominating Committee would appreciate your help in identifying potential nominees for the following national offices:
- 2005 President-Elect
- 2005-06 Vice President, Finance
- 2005-06 Vice President, Information and Practice
- 2005-06 Vice President, Membership
The Nominating Committee will meet during the annual meeting in New Orleans to prepare the 2004 slate of candidates for the above offices. You do not need to determine whether the individuals you suggest would be willing to stand for election. They will be contacted by the Nominating Committee prior to its meeting in New Orleans to determine their willingness to run if nominated.
Potential nominees for vice president include all full members of the Society. Vice presidents may be renominated to succeed themselves in the same office for a second consecutive term.
Nominees for president-elect, on the other hand, must serve at least one full term as a national vice president or chapter trustee to be eligible for nomination. A sitting vice president or chapter trustee must complete his or her first term in office prior to installation as president-elect.
The sitting officers in 2005 will be:
- President Patrick A. Miller, PhD, FASLA, of the Virginia Chapter
- Immediate Past President Susan L. B. Jacobson, FASLA, of the Illinois Chapter
- Vice President, Communication John H. Nicolaus, ASLA, of the Sierra Chapter
- Vice President, Education Karen C. Hanna, ASLA, of the Utah Chapter
- Vice President, Public Affairs Amy L. Schneckenburger, ASLA,
of the Sierra Chapter
In forwarding your suggestions, please be sure to clearly identify the office for which your potential nominees are intended, and it helps reduce confusion over similar names if you include your potential nominee's chapter affiliation as well. Please respond by Friday, August 15, 2003, to mhanson@asla.org; Fax 202-842-0861; or address to ASLA, Attn: Mary Hanson, 636 Eye Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001.
