Step out of the Old Yard’s north gate towards the Science Center to discover The Plaza, Harvard University’s first major outdoor project of the University’s Common Spaces Program. This program aims to engage the academic community by creating opportunities for informal interactions on campus.

The Plaza is the active threshold between the honorific space of Harvard Yard and the mixed academic, research, and residential uses of North Campus. The site rests on top of a pre-existing vehicular tunnel, which poses technical challenges related to landscapes on structure, but also allows for a lively pedestrian-oriented space that is uninterrupted by vehicular traffic.
