Director, Member and Chapter Services

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and its members work to design a more sustainable, livable, and beautiful world. Landscape architects create city master plans, design ecosystems, develop innovative park projects like the High Line in New York City, roll out bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, and renew residential landscapes. ASLA has more than 15,000 members in the U.S. and around the world.

ASLA seeks an experienced Director, Member and Chapter Services.

Nature of the Position:

  • Develops and directs the Society’s member services and recruitment and retention programs.
  • Develops, manages, and reports on the department’s annual budget and program plan.
  • Works with marketing staff to plan and implement member recruitment and retention programs, including annual membership marketing plan.
  • Oversees the activities of member/chapter services staff and consultants/vendors and ensures courteous and timely customer service support for members, subscribers, and prospects.
  • Provides oversight of the iMIS database manager, ensuring integration of iMIS management with membership and ASLA-wide program needs.
  • Coordinates the work of the Emerging Professionals Committee, Leadership Development Committee, Member Services Committee, LA Bash (student convention) and other study groups, task forces, and/or representatives as needed.
  • Coordinates department communications, including review and maintenance of departmental web pages.
  • Supports the VP Membership and the National Student Representative to the Board of Trustees.
  • Oversees chapter service programs, Chapter Visitation and Student Chapter Programs, providing staff support to the Chapter Presidents Council and facilitating chapter strategic planning sessions quarterly.
  • Oversees affinity programs and other member benefit programs and services.

Experience / Skills:

BA degree in marketing, communications, or related field. Microsoft Office and iMIS database computer application experience, along with experience with social media, web content management systems, and Adobe.

Strong team work skills and demonstrated ability to work with volunteer leadership. Ability to balance very heavy workload with short and long-term project deadlines, address changing priorities, and work well under pressure.

Minimum five years' experience in nonprofit/association membership development. Must develop a broad knowledge of the landscape architecture profession and ASLA member benefits, programs, and services.
