Shawn T. Kelly, FASLA, is a registered landscape architect in California and Wisconsin. He is the principal of Kelly Design Group, LLC, a design bid office. The firm (sole practitioner) has produced drawings for projects including aggressive stormwater management and harvesting, zoo design, municipal buildings, public gardens and businesses, college campus plans, ecological restoration and historic preservation, home and estate plans, school systems, and a dog park. The firm has three case studies on the EPA data base for stormwater management. With the challenging economy, Kelly has expanded marketing and won a commission for an art park as well as produced drawings for an industry-related magazine article.

Kelly is full-time faculty at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he has taught the core courses in the curriculum for 16 years, advised and inspired students, and created a conduit to the professional practice of landscape architecture. Among other achievements at UW, he created and organizes the Career Fair for LA Students as well as the yearly senior display at the state capitol for NLAM.

Kelly worked with UW Extension on multiple First Nation plans and charrettes on five Ojibwa Reservations. He has presented multiple papers at CELA, Wisconsin ASLA, and APA conferences; lectured at multiple universities here and abroad; and presented at two National American Indian Housing Authority conferences on sustainable practice, the ethics of practice, stormwater harvesting and reuse, and both transdisciplinary action research in Indian communities and transformational learning theory as it applies to landscape architects.

Kelly has served Wisconsin ASLA as secretary, president-elect, president in 1999, past president, chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, chair of the Licensure Upgrade Committee, and two-term trustee.

National committee participation includes ethics, education, audit, nominating, and policy.

Kelly is director of the Center for Sustainable Education (WI ASLA) and the Center for Sustainable Design (UW Madison).

Kelly worked tirelessly on the practice act for Wisconsin landscape architects for 11 years, and was central to the law that made Wisconsin the 46th state to sign practice act legislation.

Kelly was invested as Fellow in 2009, nominated by past students.
