Manager, Professional Practice Programs

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) seeks to design a more sustainable, livable, and beautiful world. Landscape architects create city master plans, design ecosystems, develop innovative park projects like the High Line in New York City, roll out bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, and renew residential landscapes. ASLA represents some 15,000 landscape architects in the U.S. and around the world.

ASLA has an opening for a Manager of Professional Practice Programs. The position manages content, serves as issue expert, and maintains a network of experts related to landscape architecture areas of practice, including sustainability and green infrastructure.  
 
Responsibilities:

  • Serves as ASLA staff subject matter expert on SITES® and as primary organizational liaison with Green Building Certification Inc. on SITES technical issues, content, and education.  
  • Develops and manages National ASLA educational programs and presentations on SITES. Delivers education programs and presentations, and trains leadership and others to deliver SITES education programs.  
  • Works with PR and Communications staff on SITES communications, marketing, and promotion.  
  • Serves as issue manager and takes initiative to ensure that ASLA and the profession are out in front on sustainability, green infrastructure, and other critical practice areas as assigned.      
  • Coordinates ASLA’s Chinatown Green Street Demonstration Project, including managing the Site Sustainability Task Force, serving as primary contact for consultants. Works with Executive Offices and Government Affairs staff on project outreach and advocacy. Develops grant applications and manages grants for the Chinatown project.  
  • Oversees management and regular updating of website content in assigned practice areas.
  • With other ASLA directors and managers, serves as liaison to and coordinates ASLA participation with other organizations.  
  • Serves as a staff executive and liaison to the Sustainable Design and Development Professional Practice Network (for SITES), the Public Practice Advisory Committee, and other task forces, and/or representatives as assigned.

Requirements:  

  • BA degree required, preferably in landscape architecture, planning, or related field.
  • Microsoft Office and Adobe computer applications experience.
  • Works well under pressure, balancing a heavy workload.
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills and ability to provide counsel and proven experience in guidance to committees and volunteers.
  • Ability to manage complex projects.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a network and knowledge of landscape architects and specialized practice areas and identify opportunities and serve as an advocate for the Society and profession.
