Brief description of event:
In anticipation of its annual festival of architecture and design, Great Chicago Places and Spaces on May 16, the Mayor’s Office of Special Events presents Conversations within Communities.
The April 24 program features Cathy J. Maloney who will discuss her book, “Chicago Gardens: The Early History”.

Name of activity: Arbor Day Celebration

Brief description of event:

1. "Arbor Week" - April 20th -24th we will be visiting 26 schools with the Morton Arboretum coordinating the volunteers. Anyone who is interested in volunteering this week can call Edith Makara 1-630-719-2425 for more information.  The Arboretum will be holding a volunteer training session in the city, sometime in April for those who are interested.

2. After "Arbor Week" we will continue visits to the remaining 26 or 27 schools for the next three weeks April 27th - May 15th based upon school schedules.  Anyone interested in volunteering at this time can call John Lough at 1-312-746-5254.

Name of activity: Career Discovery
Date: Month of April
Location: Throughout Illinois

Brief description of event:
Career Discovery Brochures have been printed and a digital copy of a coloring book has been made available to membership. Members have already volunteered to present the career of landscape architecture to their local schools. The University of Illinois will also be distributing the brochure and coloring book. The chapter will be participating in several local career fairs to heighten awareness of the field of landscape architecture.

Name of activity: Boy Scout Landscape Architecture Merit Badge
